American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Announces Touch Surgery to Pilot Innovative Video-based Endoscopic Simulations

Four Interactive App-based Simulations Will Be Showcased in the ASGE’s Learning Center Throughout Digestive Disease Week 2018 in Washington, DC

Downers Grove, IL, May 30, 2018 – The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) in collaboration with Touch Surgery, is excited to announce a pilot project that will take place during the upcoming 2018 Digestive Disease Week® (DDW®) congress, the world’s leading educational forum on GI Endoscopy. Between June 2-5 members of the Touch Surgery team will be on hand to demonstrate to attendees, three mobile-accessed and video-based simulations developed especially for the demonstration at ASGE’s Learning Center.  Come try out this innovative mobile training technology and tell us what you think!

Working closely with ASGE, Touch Surgery was able to convert endoscopic procedural videos into interactive mini-simulations. Accessible from mobile devices the simulations offer the learner the chance to walk through procedures step-by-step in an interactive manner. The goal of the DDW pilot is to expose members of ASGE to this mobile technology and to get their feedback about using the Touch Surgery app as a new learning modality in a convenient and scalable manner.

“We’re excited to pilot Touch Surgery’s new video-based simulation offering at DDW 2018 in ASGE’s Learning Center. We are looking forward to hearing from our members about the potential use of such an innovative platform and analytics to enhance offerings,” said Karen L. Woods MD, President of the ASGE.

Since 1941, ASGE has been dedicated to providing the highest standards for training, serving as the foremost resource for endoscopic education.  This education has previously come in a variety of formats across digital modalities (videos, articles, social media feeds) and hands-on training (the ASGE state-of-the-art Institute for Training and Technology).

The pilot effort between ASGE and Touch Surgery blends two approaches to training (digital / hands-on), giving ASGE the reach of a digital platform while allowing users ongoing training options for a variety of endoscopic procedures.

Touch Surgery is the world’s most downloaded surgical simulation app, teaching and testing users on procedures through interactive simulations that are built from surgical videos or 3D animations.  The Learn and Test modes within Touch Surgery walk it’s 2.5 million users through the entire surgical procedure, giving them important feedback on steps they need to refine their knowledge in order to be ready for a clinical environment.
